France's High-School Protests Turn to Riots
High-school protests over education conditions — teacher shortages, overcrowded classes, aging buildings — spread across France, with arson at Paris schools, fireworks fired at police, and about 2,000 detained as of the 2nd. Sensational video of fires and attacks spread in Japan, where some consumed it as a warning about immigration. But a substantial strand pointed out the trigger was schooling, not an 'immigrant riot,' and that the violence came from groups piggybacking on the protests. The far-left LFI attached itself to the movement only after the fact.
