1. About Japan Local Voices
Japan Local Voices (JLV) translates and contextualises Japanese internet reactions to world events for English-speaking readers. Our mission is to bridge the language and cultural gap between Japanese online discourse and the rest of the world — making everyday voices on 5ch, Twitter/X, Yahoo News comments, and similar platforms accessible to non-Japanese speakers.
2. Editorial Process
- •Source discovery — we monitor major Japanese news aggregators, 5ch / 2ch boards, X (Twitter) trends, and news-site comment sections for trending discussions about international topics.
- •AI-assisted translation — comments are translated with advanced AI models, then reviewed by a human editor for nuance, slang, and cultural context.
- •Curation — we select comments that represent the spread of opinion, from mainstream to controversial, serious to humorous. We do not cherry-pick to make Japan look any particular way.
- •Attribution — we always link back to the original platform (5ch thread, news article, tweet) where the source comments appeared.
- •Corrections — if you spot a translation error or missing context, please use the report form (see Contact below) and we will review it as soon as we can.
3. Syndication & Citation
We welcome being quoted and linked by other publications. The terms below cover JLV's original editorial material (article summaries, translation notes, framing). The rights to the underlying source comments and platforms belong to their original authors and operators.
