A Rural Trafficking Shadow: The English-Speaking Woman Found After 26 Years
An influencer who films rural China met a disheveled, seemingly cognitively impaired woman who spoke fluent English and used trade jargon. Reporting says a woman who vanished in 2000, then in her thirties, was found in a Shandong village 26 years later, living with a man about twenty years her senior, and that the man was taken in by police. The case, together with images said to depict forced marriage in the countryside, spread in Japan as a story of trafficking and confinement — though whether she was trafficked and sold remains unconfirmed.
