A Left-Wing 'Hitler Mussolini' Wins a Mayoral Race in Peru
In the district of Quero Palca in Peru's Huánuco region, Hitler Mussolini Simeón Flores, a candidate from the left-wing party Ahora Nación, won the mayoral race with 229 of 663 votes. The combination of two Axis dictators' names on a self-described left-winger gave the story strong novelty value. Japanese forums mostly treated it as a prompt for history jokes and for the familiar online debate over whether the Nazis were 'left' or 'right.' Some also noted Latin American naming customs and that he is an ordinary local politician campaigning on roads and public works.
