Japan Moves to Treat a Voice Actor's Voice as Protected Against AI
A Justice Ministry study panel produced draft guidance stating that a person's voice can be a protected interest, and that training an AI on a voice actor's voice to sing someone else's song for profit could constitute infringement. With voice actor Kenjiro Tsuda also pursuing legal action, the reaction was largely welcoming — alongside persistent questions about how imitation and coincidental resemblance would ever be told apart.
