Japan's Citizen Population Drops Below 120 Million as Foreign Residents Top 4 Million
A demographic survey put Japan's citizen population at 119,736,483, the first time below 120 million since 1984, with a record one-year drop of 916,744. Foreign residents rose by 353,696 to 4,031,159, the highest since counting began in 2013 and 3.26% of the total. Japanese commenters argued past each other about collapse, right-sizing, and whether immigration is the fix or the problem.
