Three unrelated incidents landed on Japanese aggregators at once: a mystery foreigner handing out ¥20,000 in Kabukicho, a Fujisawa mosque negotiating a 'community pact' with residents, and an arson reported as 'anti-foreigner.' Together they fed a broader anxiety over public safety and multiculturalism — but also a wariness of hoax-driven xenophobic violence.
A major US paper reported that Russian operatives expelled from the West had shifted their base to Japan, using a Tokyo Aeroflot office as cover to procure military supplies, and dubbed Japan a 'spy paradise.' The story reignited debate over Japan's weak counter-espionage posture and its long-stalled anti-espionage law — with a vocal minority insisting the real spy hub is the US.
Three international-sports threads ran at once in Japan: the 2026 World Cup semifinalists (France, Spain, England, Argentina) prompted 'same old crowd' takes and calls for a dark horse; celebrity Shoko Nakagawa's garbled 'France World Cup, watched it on local TV' line became a nitpicking game; and a Paraguayan senator's 'utterly repugnant man' jab at Mbappé drew scorn — aimed at the senator. The tone stayed light and consumption-driven.
