Beijing's Condition for the Diet Delegation, and Hatoyama in Beijing
Chinese officials told a cross-party Japanese delegation that policy toward Japan will not change while Prime Minister Takaichi's Diet answer on a Taiwan contingency stands. Days later a clip spread of former prime minister Yukio Hatoyama saying in Beijing that Japan should keep apologising until the other side stops asking. Japanese boards read the two together and treated the trip as a failed errand.
