Anime-Named Kids Abroad and a Live-Action Gundam Amuse Japan's Net
Indonesia's interior ministry reported people named after Japanese anime characters—181 'Nobita,' 65 'Shinchan,' 16 'Doraemon,' 8 'Suneo'—and the Netflix/Hollywood live-action Gundam was described by its lead actor as belonging to the 'Universal Century' canon. Japanese netizens mixed amusement at the culture's overseas reach with skepticism toward the live-action reworking and the 'canon' label.
