Tourists Sitting on Ginza's Sidewalks Reignite a Manners-vs-Infrastructure Debate
A TV Asahi report showed foreign tourists sitting on the ground in Ginza, Tokyo's upscale shopping district. Japanese boards split between disgust at the manners and hygiene and criticism of the city for lacking benches, trash cans, and rest areas. Many tied it to 'hostile architecture' and to overtourism exceeding the city's capacity. Police said sitting itself is not automatically illegal unless it obstructs passage or business.
