Several stories landed at once — the suspension of Specified Skilled Worker (Type 1) intake for restaurants at the 50,000 cap, an allegedly unpermitted mosque tied to Pakistan's embassy, and a shrine incident — fueling broad distrust of immigration. Coverage of football riots in France was cited as a warning of what mass immigration could bring.
A cluster of stories about refugee status, a foreign trainee crime case, and European migration politics produced a security-heavy backlash in Japanese comment sections. The mood was strongly negative, but the reactions jumped from individual incidents to broad claims about immigration policy failure.
Several unrelated April incidents — convenience stores being staffed mostly by foreign workers, a viral brawl between Lawson clerks in Kabukicho, four Vietnamese suspects unindicted in a Chiba confinement case, and backlash to support efforts for Indian residents in Hokkaido — were bundled by Japanese reaction sites into a single 'multicultural friction' frame. Individual incidents are real, but the generalization is heavily editorial.
