Nagoya Asian Games Announce Korea as 'China' at a Medal Ceremony
At the men's team modern pentathlon medal ceremony on September 20, gold-medalist Korea was introduced in English as the 'Republic of China,' and Korean media said no proper apology followed. 'Republic of China' is actually the formal name of Taiwan, not the People's Republic of China. It landed as the latest in a string of operational troubles at the Games — a misplayed North Korean anthem, shuttle buses that failed to arrive. Reactions split between people who set aside their feelings about Korea to say the blunder deserves anger, others correcting the terminology, and a smaller group floating an unconfirmed theory that the operation is China-linked and did it on purpose.
