Asian Games Organizers Apologize for Rising Sun Flag Sign, Stay Silent on Taiwan
Organizers of the Nagoya Asian Games apologized for a venue sign that used the Rising Sun flag as an example of what could not be brought in, calling it an on-site mistake. But they said nothing about the confiscation of 'Taiwan' cheering towels a day earlier, and critics accused them of a double standard that spares Japan's flag while ignoring Taiwan. A sizable counter-current noted that the Taiwan flag was also barred at past Games and Olympics and that the OCA, not Aichi, set the rules.
