China's Wartime Mobilization Law and a Cross-Strait History Fight
China's amended National Defense Mobilization Law, enacted August 28, takes effect on October 1, letting authorities requisition civilian resources once a mobilization is declared and stockpiles fall short. Japanese boards read it as a step toward a Taiwan contingency and a reason to reduce reliance on China. Separately, after Xi Jinping called the U.S. and China wartime allies, Taiwan rebutted that the Republic of China was the one that fought alongside the United States, and netizens attacked Beijing's account by noting the People's Republic was founded only in 1949.
