A Japanese YouTuber Takes Toddlers Through Mideast Danger Zones
A mother-and-children travel YouTuber who had already drawn backlash over an Afghanistan trip continued from Iran into Iraq with her 3- and 5-year-old children, posting that it was 'totally peaceful' and that 'the Foreign Ministry can't be relied on.' Afghanistan is under Japan's highest-level evacuation advisory. Japanese reaction was overwhelmingly critical, centered on child endangerment and the ethics of exposing young children to risk for content. Many also raised the public cost of any rescue, while a minority defended her as an experienced traveler. The scale of criticism online could not be measured.
